LAS 34948, Land Use Permit Application for Installation of a Water Intake for the Village of Chalkyitsik

Subject to AS 38.05.850, the Northern Regional Land Office has received an application for the following:

APPLICANT: Chalkyitsik Village Council

PROJECT NAME: LAS 34948

GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION: Within the Black River (66.654923 N, 143.720589 W) near the Village of Chalkyitsik.

LEGAL DESCRIPTION: Section 7 of Township 21 North, Range 19 East, Fairbanks Meridian

REQUESTED ACTIVITY: The Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Division of Mining, Land and Water (DMLW), Northern Regional Land Office (NRO), has received an application from the Chalkyitsik Village Council for the installation of a raw water intake in the Black River to serve as the community water source for the Village of Chalkyitsik. Water withdrawal is authorized under LAS 19659 (Water Rights). In the summer, the floating intake consists of a platform suspended on two pontoons and anchored by two 16-pound anchors with 10 feet of 1/2" galvanized chain and 35 feet of polypropylene rope. For the floating intake, the hose on the river is suspended using orange fenders attached by braided floating propylene rope to make it visible to boaters. The intake is removed prior to freeze-up each year. In the winter, the insulated intake is placed on the river after the ice thickness is sufficient to support deployment activities using a snow machine and trailer. An insulated water hose runs from the intake to the upland pumphouse and is about 180 feet long.

REQUESTED TERM: 5 years
Start: May 1, 2024
End: May 1, 2029
