Protecting an ocean predator

Global ocean conservation group Oceana recognized me as a Shark Hero for successfully leading the effort in Congress to enact the Shark Fin Sales Elimination Act. The bill, which I modeled after the Marianas law banning the sale of shark fins, was signed into law by President Biden in December. It is now illegal to possess, buy, or sell shark fins anywhere in the United States. Oceana's Lara Levison, Senior Director of Federal Policy, and Beth Lowell, Vice President for the United States, presented me with a framed award.
