Niclas Füllkrug looking 'ahead to the next two months with great euphoria'

Niclas Füllkrug will be involved in the European Championships in Germany this summer. Following the official confirmation on Tuesday morning, he fielded questions from journalists and looked ahead to the Champions League final.

Niclas Füllkrug on the contact with national team coach Julian Nagelsmann:
"It has been a gradual process over the past year. At the last training camp, it was already clear what my role would be and where I would be needed. That already gave me a good feeling for the European Championships. There has been contact in the meantime. Then I got another message, the final confirmation. I feel absolutely delighted about it, am extremely grateful and am looking ahead to the next two months with great euphoria."

…Nico Schlotterbeck, who has also been called up:
"He deserved it, otherwise the national coach wouldn't have done it. I'm hugely happy for him. It is nice for me to have a Dortmund team-mate there. It's nice for him to be rewarded for this season."

…the home EURO and the Champions League final:
"It can't have been that much of a coincidence. If you assert yourself at this level, perform consistently, score and perhaps stand out in a certain way, then that's a performance that I'm proud of. It only works when you have a functioning team around you. Lots of factors play a role in that regard. There were and are many world-class players who have never played in a Champions League final or at a home EURO. The fact this coincides with my career is a blessing. I'm very grateful for that. I now have two months ahead that will be tough to top in terms of my career."

…the match against Darmstadt and Marco Reus' farewell:
"It is the last competitive game before the Champions League final. We will do everything in our power to play a good game. We want to give the spectators a nice finish at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK. We want to make it an unforgettable evening for Marco. It will be a great day. We will approach it in a fully focused manner and absolutely want to have a good game."

…the final at Wembley:
"We had a few days off and were able to relax. You're playing a semi-final, the body is prepared for it and after that you have the feeling that the tension is falling away. Now we're together again and want to prepare ourselves for this match in order to produce a top performance."
