Missing Swimmer Recovered

Lovell, WY: National Park Service personnel, Carbon County Sheriff Office (MT), Big Horn County (WY) Sheriff Office, Big Horn County (WY) Search and Rescue, US Water Rescue Dive Team and numerous friends and family have been searching for a 19 year old male swimmer who went missing June 18 around 4:25 p.m near Barry's Landing.

The search has included vessels, underwater cameras, divers, and walking the shorelines. Around 2:30 p.m. June 19, the victim was found by US Water Rescue Divers and recovered by NPS rangers, Carbon County (MT) Sheriff and Big Horn County (WY) Sheriff's deputies.

Carbon County Sheriff Josh McQuillan identified the victim as Dominic Hunder, 19 year old male from Lovell, WY. Hunder was swimming with friends in the Hillsboro area when he became fatigued and slipped underneath the water. He was unable to be rescued and did not resurface.

'We are saddened by this unfortunate event. Our thoughts and prayers go to the family and friends of the victim. I commend the multi-agency search and rescue team for their hard work and perseverance.' Acting Superintendent, Raymond McPadden.

Visitors are reminded that swimming and boating conditions can be hazardous on the lake. Life jackets are strongly recommended.
