Amador COVID-19 Cases Continue to Increase

Amador County Public Health reports 57 more cases of COVID-19 since last Tuesday's update, bringing the total laboratory confirmed case count to 1,958. The current cases include 26 males and 31 females, 20 children under the age of 18 years, 25 aged 18-49, 10 aged 50-64, 2 age 65 and above; 18 residing in Ione, 6 in Jackson, 4 living in Plymouth/surrounding areas, 6 in Pine Grove, 4 residing in Pioneer, and 19 in Sutter Creek/Amador City. 725 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in 2021 to date. Two Amador residents are currently hospitalized with COVID-19.

This week a vaccine pop-up site will be offered at the Amador County Fair on Thursday and Friday, July 29^th and 30^th, 2021, from 9 am to 6 pm. Both the Pfizer vaccine and the Johnson and Johnson (single-dose) vaccine will be offered at the fair, no appointment is necessary. Immunization clinics are also offered twice a month at Health and Human Services in Sutter Creek on the first and third Tuesdays of the month by appointment. Homebound individuals may schedule a home visit to receive their COVID-19 vaccine. Appointments may be scheduled by calling (209) 223-6407.

Individuals who have received only the first dose of the two-dose vaccine series do not yet have maximum protection and are urged to schedule their second-dose appointment as soon as possible. Fully vaccinated people without any symptoms do not need to quarantine if they are a close contact to a positive case.

Over 34,900 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to Amador residents to date. 63.6% of eligible Amador County residents, age 12 and over, have had at least one dose of vaccine and over 15,850 are fully vaccinated.

Stay safe while visiting the Amador County Fair this week. If not already vaccinated, masks are still required indoors. People are more likely to get infected and spread the virus when indoors. Becoming fully vaccinated against COVID-19 is the best protection for preventing serious illness and hospitalization. Other protective measures include washing your hands often and, if you are sick, stay home. Because of the rise in cases and the more contagious Delta variant circulating in Amador, even vaccinated people who are at high-risk for severe disease, or who live with someone who is unvaccinated, should strongly consider wearing a mask indoors while in public. Everyone exhibiting symptoms, even fully vaccinated individuals, should isolate and be tested. No-cost COVID-19 testing is still available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays in the rear parking lot of the Health and Human Services building in Sutter Creek from 7 am to 3 pm. Register for testing at the lhi.care website or by calling 1-888-634-1123. Those who are pre-registered are prioritized.
