Rep. Chu Condemns Republican Rip Off Advancing from House Budget Committee

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, the House Budget Committee advanced on a 21-16 party line vote the Concurrent Resolution on the Budget For Fiscal Year 2025. Rep. Judy Chu, who voted in opposition, released the following statement:

"The budget advanced tonight by House Republicans betrays the American people in service of their millionaire and billionaire donors like Elon Musk. The American people want the President and Republican Members of Congress to focus on inflation and the affordability crisis in America, but all they could muster in this budget was trillions in dollars of tax cuts that flow to corporations and the rich, ripping off middle class Americans in the process. To finance those four and a half trillion dollars in tax cuts for the wealthiest people in this country, they have promised to take food from the tables of needy families and health care coverage from children, seniors, and people with disabilities.

"The amendments I offered to protect Social Security and protect the ability of the IRS to provide better customer service and go after ultra-rich tax cheats who don't pay their fair share were voted down by every Republican. Republicans refused to negotiate with Democrats on a bipartisan basis in crafting the budget, and they refused to support any of the changes we offered to improve the legislation. The result is a budget that steals taxpayer funds that could be invested into communities to lower costs, build bridges and roads, and improve classrooms and instead places them in the hands of billionaires who hoard more and more wealth in our country. Budgets represent priorities, and House Republican priorities betray the working class."
