Notice - Combined Sewer Overflow Event - West Water Street

On Sunday, March 31, 2024 at approximately 10:03 AM, the City of Taunton had a combined sewer overflow ( CSO ) discharge into the Taunton River. With the heavy rainfalls, the City's permitted CSO , CSO 004, located at approximately 500 West Water Street in Taunton activated. The estimated volume of discharge for the CSO is 300,000 gallons.

The CSOaffected the Taunton River at 500 West Water Street in Taunton and potentially impacted downstream locations, including potentially impacting the public boat ramp at Weir Village Riverfront Park on West Water Street. City of Taunton Department of Public Works staff and Waste Water Treatment Facility contractors are working to maintain sewer operations, manage and monitor the CSOevent, and comply with Federal, State, and City regulations. Residents should take precautionary measures, including avoiding contact with these water bodies for 48 hours after the discharge or overflow ceases due to increased health risks from bacteria and other pollutants.
