Structure of cash in circulation: 2022 results

A surge in demand for cash occurred twice in 2022: for the first time, in February-March, but it was short, and then in September. However, in October, this trend slowed down. In addition, demand for cash was traditionally high in December before the New Year holidays.

The share of 5,000-ruble notes in the total number of banknotes increased from 33% to 37%, while the portion of 1,000-ruble and 100-ruble notes decreased from 22% to 20% and from 17% to 16%, respectively.
