Chemistry Students Present at 2024 WNY American Chemical Society Symposium

Four undergraduate students from NU's Department of Biochemistry, Chemistry, and Physics presented the results of their research work at the 2024 WNY ACS Undergraduate Research Symposium at The State University of New York at Buffalo on Saturday, April 13.

Raegan Lawton, a junior education major, and Zachary Holmes, a sophomore biochemistry major, presented their work on single crystal X-ray diffraction of chalcogen-containing chromophores. They performed their research in Dr. Lauren Rosch's lab.

Elise Spence, a sophomore biochemistry major, presented her work on a route to synthesize the antitumor natural products TMC-95, and Adrian Martinez, a freshman chemistry major, presented his progress on the synthesis of ent-Artemisinin, a potential antimalarial agent. Both students did their work in the lab of Dr. Luis Sanchez.

Since its inception in Western New York in 2008, the American Chemical Society Undergraduate Research Symposium has brought together undergraduate researchers and their mentors from area colleges and universities to share their rich and diverse undergraduate research experience.
