Environmental Sustainability Priorities Survey

Environmental Sustainability Priorities in Manhattan Beach
The City of Manhattan Beach has a long history of environmental leadership, policy and stewardship, both as a community and city government. Previously adopted environmental regulations include:

  • Gas and electric leaf blower ban, 1998.
  • Single-use plastic bags ban, 2008.
  • Polystyrene ban, 2013.
  • Single-use plastic straws and utensils ban, 2018.
  • Mylar balloon ban, 2019.
  • Prohibition of the sale of all tobacco products within the City, 2020
  • 2012, Establishment of the Certified Green Business program, which recognizes and promotes local businesses that reduce their environmental impacts. (As of 2023, the Manhattan Beach Green Business network has certified 100 businesses. Some of the benefits to the environment resulting from their practices include saving 938 tons of greenhouse gas emissions, 1.4 million kilowatt hours of energy, 8 million gallons of potable water and 1,300 tons of waste diverted from local landfills.)

In February of 2024, Manhattan Beach hosted a Sustainability Forum highlighting our environmental accomplishments while also asking the audience what their top environmental priorities for the city moving forward. We are now extending a similar survey to the entire community! Please take a moment to complete the survey and let us know what your top sustainability priorities are!
