Burin Peninsula RCMP arrests woman for animal cruelty following video posted to social media

Following reports of a video circulating on social media containing animal cruelty, 41-year-old Amy Drake of Grand Bank was arrested on November 21, 2022, by Burin Peninsula RCMP.

Shortly before 4:00 p.m. on Monday, police received reports of a live social media video displaying harm by Drake towards a cat within a residence. Drake, who is currently on probation and conditions of a court release order, was arrested last night and taken into police custody. The animal was removed from the home by police and has been transported to the SPCA.

Drake is charged with the following criminal offences:

  • Causing unnecessary harm to an animal
  • Breach of probation
  • Breach of a condition of a court release order

She attended court via teleconference this morning and was released from custody on further conditions. Her next court date is set for November 30, 2022.
