TAKE the SURVEY!

About the Pilot Study
The City of Santa Rosa is conducting its first school safety pilot study. This project is on Steele Lane from Meyers Drive to Rowe Drive in front of Steele Lane Elementary School. The pilot study will "road diet" Steele Lane from March 18 through May 24, meaning that one lane of traffic will be removed for several weeks. The lane of traffic to be removed is the right westbound lane closest to the entrance of Steele Lane Elementary School from Meyers Drive to Rowe Drive.

The City is looking to improve Safe Routes to School access to Steele Lane Elementary School and the pilot study would allow the City to see how more bus, bicycle, and pedestrian space in front of the elementary school may help students and parents access the school. While the City is concerned about safe access to the elementary school, it also understands that it is near a Highway 101 interchange and is a significant thoroughfare for vehicles. Therefore, we are implementing this pilot study to determine what impacts the road diet will have on multimodal travel along this corridor.

A survey to seek feedback on the study will be open from May 1 through May 31, to collect feedback from residents on their experience traveling though the corridor during the pilot project. The survey will help the City understand the impacts a permanent road diet may have on all users of the corridor, including vehicles, pedestrians, bicycles, and public transit.
