Westerman Leads Special Order on Western Drought Crisis

WASHINGTON, D.C., July 29, 2021
-

Today, House Committee on Natural Resources Ranking Member Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.) led a special order on the House floor, where members showcased the devastating consequences this administration's inaction on western water is having during a severe drought season.

'For months now, we have sounded the alarm, only to be met with inaction from both the administration and our Democrat colleagues,' Westerman said. 'While water may not be abundant out West, it's abundantly clear this administration has no plan. In contrast, we do. We have the Resilient Federal Forests Act, the Trillion Trees Act, the re-authorization of the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation Act and bringing balance to the Endangered Species Act, to name a few, so we can avoid the next drought. We have the ability to overcome and avoid droughts, but we must have the political will to act. The American people deserve nothing less.'
