Facilities of the Ministry of National Defence to be included in the "ELECTRA" programme for energy upgrade

The Deputy Minister of National Defence Ioannis Kefalogiannis had a work meeting yesterday, Monday 16 October 2023, with the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, Ms. Alexandra Sdoukou.

The subject of the two pertinent Deputy Ministers' meeting was the proposal submitted by the MOD regarding its funding of 72,000,000 € via the "ELECTRA" programme, aiming at improving the energy efficiency of facilities of the Ministry.

Mr. Kefalogiannis and Ms. Sdoukou discussed on the energy plan for the facilities of the 401 General Military Hospital of Athens, the Submarine Command "PROTEUS", the Accommodation building of the Hellenic Navy NCO Academy, the 22 buildings of the Hellenic Army Academy, as well as the Ministry's facilities in PAPAGOS Camp. In particular, the plan includes interventions such as energy shielding and energy management system of buildings, installing photovoltaics and many more, which will help save energy
and cost.

After the meeting, the Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr. Kefalogiannis stated:
"The energy upgrade of the infrastructures of the Ministry of National Defence is a priority for the political leadership of the Ministry. Reducing the energy footprint and saving resources. In this context, we make use of the Recovery Fund, and we will also look for additional European funding tools and regional programmes."

The Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy Ms. Alexandra Sdoukou stated on this issue:
"It was a joy for us to receive today at the Ministry of Environment and Energy the Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr. Kefalogiannis, and discuss matters pertaining to the energy upgrade of MOD buildings and, in particular, the applications for accession to the ELECTRA programme. The energy upgrade of public buildings is among our high priorities. Our goal is to attract as many public buildings as possible, and thus contribute to achieving the national objectives of consumption reduction and energy saving".
