A taste of Amsterdam: Salon welcomes travellers in Lounge 1 at Schiphol

In collaboration with travel retailer Avolta, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol has opened the doors of Salon, the location of two new catering concepts in Lounge 1 at the airport.

Salon, inspired by Amsterdam's canals and terraces, comprises Grand Café and Deli. Both local and international travellers can enjoy an authentic taste of Amsterdam thanks to the unique design and selection of dishes on the menu. Salon is located at the heart of Lounge 1 and has more than 300 seats. Before the arrival of Salon, this was the location of the iconic Grand Café 't Paleis and the Mediterranean Sandwich Bar, which were also operated by Avolta (formerly HMSHost).

"

Over the coming years, Schiphol will continue to open new restaurants that improve the quality and diversity of our offering. Salon is a worthy replacement for Grand Café 't Paleis and I am sure it will become just as popular among our travellers. You still have a fantastic view of the planes here, but the flow to the border passage behind has been greatly improved at this new location.

Tim de Bie, Sr. Manager Commercial Terminal Services Royal Schiphol Group

We're very excited to open Salon to travelers, allowing them to experience a little piece of Amsterdam without even leaving the airport. We are proud to work alongside our longstanding partner, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, to help make the traveler's F&B experience a memorable one.

Walter Seib, CEO Noord-, Oost- en Centraal-Europa van Avolta

Redevelopment Lounge 1
The opening of Salon is part of a large-scale redevelopment of Lounge 1at the airport. Travellers flying within Europe end up in this lounge after the security check. The lounge will go from 19,000 to 24,000 square meters, creating more walking and sitting space after the renovation. The airport is also expanding the range of shops and catering establishments with 23 new concepts.

At Deli, travellers can enjoy Dutch delicacies from local suppliers, such as sandwiches with beef sausage or Gouda cheese, quiches and appetizers. Local beers and drinks are served at the bar, including products from Betuws Wijndomein Linge and Roze Bunker. Grand Café is a full-service restaurant where travellers will find an extensive menu, ranging from breakfast and burgers to salads, appetizer platters and desserts. All easy to order using a QR code. The cozy bar at the Grand Café can accommodate about 14 travellers.
