Arapahoe Sheriff & Arapahoe Coroner invite you to an Open House and Free

ARAPAHOE COUNTY - Come join us on Saturday, June 3 for an exciting behind-the-scenes look at the Sheriff and Coroner's Office. It's a fun and free family-friendly event! This is your chance to climb into a SWAT vehicle, see five police K9s in action, watch a vehicle extrication, pet our mounted unit horses, school therapy dogs, get an exclusive tour of the Coroner's Facility, and even try out 'maggot art.' Plus, take a tour of our 911 dispatch center and a get a history tour of the Sheriff's Office. We're 165 years old this year and we have a lot of historic artifacts to show you.

But wait, there's more! The Denver Police helicopter will land right on our front lawn. Oh, and did we mention the FREE pancake and sausage breakfast? Bring your family & friends and explore all the different parts of ACSO. We have plenty of free parking. We only do this once a year, so don't miss it.

"This is our biggest event of the year and it's all about community," says Sheriff Tyler Brown. Our open house gives us a chance to meet and mingle with our neighbors and really get to know the people we serve. We want to show you the different ways we keep you safe, let you try out some of our newest equipment, answer your questions and provide a fun and memorable day for your family."

"For the Coroner's Office, it's a great opportunity to meet our community in a neutral situation, rather than during a time they are experiencing a loss," says Dr. Kelly Lear, Arapahoe County Coroner. "Our facility tours are always popular and fill up quickly. Plus, maggot art and bone identification give you a chance to learn about different aspects and responsibilities of what we do at the Coroner's Office."

*Maggot Art - blow fly larvae, better known as maggots, are an integral part of crime scene investigations and for children the art provides an interactive introduction into the life cycle of insects and the role they play in nature and decomposition. Maggot paintings are used in many classrooms throughout the country as a scientific learning tool. The Coroner's Office gets its maggots from a fishing supply store where they are used as bait. The maggots are not harmed and only non-toxic water-based paints are used.
