The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, today met with the Foreign Minister of Suriname, Albert Ramdin, at the headquarters of the hemispheric Organization in Washington, DC.
During the meeting, the two discussed recent developments in the Hemisphere, as well as the challenges that exist in Suriname. The OAS leader noted that the Government of Suriname recognized these challenges and applauded its commitment to dialogue and democracy as well as the peaceful resolution of conflicts.
Secretary General Almagro and Foreign Minister Ramdin also highlighted the support of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in the search for solutions to the crisis in Haiti, as well as the positive evolution that has been made through dialogue, with the support of the international community. Finally, Secretary General Almagro said the Organization recognizes and applauds the support of CARICOM in this effort.
