Lewistown, PA - The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced work will resume on a highway reconstruction and paving project on Route 1005 (Valley Street) in Lewistown Borough and Derry Township on Thursday, April 11. This project will improve ride quality and extend the life of the roadway between the intersections of Oak Street and Ort Valley Road.

A daylight alternating traffic control pattern will be in place and drivers can expect to encounter flaggers on the roadway and short travel delays. This area will have no lane restrictions after working hours. Parking will be affected in this area.

This project involves roadway reconstruction, paving, construction of a retaining wall, drainage improvements, installation of inlets, manholes, concrete piping, sidewalks, curbing, ADA curb ramps, pavement markings and legends, and miscellaneous construction. This will complete a project on Route 1005 between the intersections of Walnut and Dorcas streets in Lewistown, where similar work was finished during the 2023 construction season.

Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. of State College, PA, is the contractor on this $5.4 million job. Project completion is anticipated for August. All work is weather dependent.
