Suozzi Statement on Navy Grumman Plume:

Today, Congressman Suozzi (D-Long Island, Queens) issued the following statement on the consent decree announced by the New York State DEC regarding the Navy Grumman Plume:

"This is a big victory for the people of Bethpage and for all of the people south of Bethpage that have been threatened by this plume for decades. I will continue to work with Bethpage and the surrounding water districts to ensure that the responsible parties follow through and that the funding is in place so they can continue to provide safe drinking water to all residents."

A statement from Mike Boufis, superintendent of Bethpage Water District on the announcement can be found below:

"We appreciate the efforts by so many state and federal officials to get to this point, and there has been clear and measurable progress, but there is a lot more pollution to account for than this decree addresses. Bethpage Water District would like to give a special thanks to Senator Schumer and Congressman Suozzi for their assistance in this matter and we will not stand down until those responsible - including NG and Navy - stand up and do the right thing."
