Pilz launches its Industrial Security Consulting Service (ISCS) - Armed with Security

With its Industrial Security Consulting Service (ISCS), the automation expert Pilz is helping companies to safeguard their plant and machinery with regard to Security. The aim of the modular service package is to detect security vulnerabilities and find solution approaches - based on current legal requirements and upcoming changes. As a result, companies guarantee the protection of their plant and machinery, and above all their employees.

A security incident can have consequences for human, machine and company: from production downtimes and loss of data through to hazards to employees who operate the machine. Manipulations on a machine, whether targeted or unintentional, can also paralyse operation, and therefore are an important reason to take security precautions. Legislators have recognised the importance of Industrial Security. The EU directive NIS 2, the Cyber Resilience Act and the Machinery Regulation are making it mandatory for European companies to make their plant and machinery secure in terms of Industrial Security. Pilz is launching its Industrial Security Consulting Service (ISCS) to give companies an idea of the hazards and impact they face, and how to implement the legislative changes to achieve CE compliance.

Four steps to greater protection of human and machine
The ISCS consists of four modules: Protection Requirements Analysis, Industrial Security Risk Assessment, Industrial Security Concept and Industrial Security System Verification. In the Protection Requirements Analysis, experts from Pilz visit the company to identify the scope of the plant or machine to be protected, and determine the system's protection goals. Step two is the risk assessment, where all risks are considered along with the likelihood of them occurring, for each subsection over the system's complete lifecycle. Then the Pilz experts meet with the customer to discuss solution approaches for vulnerabilities and potential hazards.

In step three, experts from Pilz create an Industrial Security Concept with strategies and measures to defend against and mitigate risks arising from attacks, manipulations and misuse. In addition, policies, rules and guidelines are created for the continued secure operation of the system. The final step, the Industrial Security System Verification, checks the effectiveness of the implemented countermeasures.

When the ISCS is completed, machine manufacturers and operators are well equipped for Industrial Security, and current and future legal requirements, for CE compliance for example, are met.
