Wildifre Safety Tips

While we don't tend to have wildfires in the city, many residents and visitors utilize the wild lands around Las Vegas like Mount Charleston, Kyle Canyon, Lee Canyon, Lake Mead and Mountain Springs for recreation like hiking and camping. We can help reduce the risk of contributing to wildfires by using the following safety points:

-Don't burn fires on windy days.
-Follow all posted fire rules and restrictions in National Parks, U.S. Forest Service land and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) lands in Southern Nevada (Lake Mead, Red Rock and Mount Charleston).
-Instal spark arrestors to your ATV's or off-road vehicles.
-Properly soak or smother all campfires, cigarette butts, or charcoal briquettes if using them in wild land areas.
-Never use highly combustible fluids like gasoline.
-Handle fireworks carefully. Only use legal "safe and sane" fireworks and keep a hose close by so you can drench the fireworks after use and if one goes astray.
-Never use fireworks in a wildland area.
-Avoid parking a hot car or other machines on dry grass or debris on the side of the roadway.
