Audrey Street to be renamed to honor community matriarch

What

The Dixon Circle community will gather to celebrate the renaming of Audrey Street to honor the late community activist Dimple Jackson.

Jackson was a longtime community activist who resided in Dixon Circle for over 50 years, and in her free time fixed dinners for houseless individuals, knit scarves and sweaters for those in shelters, and volunteered at local nursing homes. On April 14, 2019, Mrs. Jackson tragically passed away at the age of 93, leaving behind a family and community in mourning.

On Jan. 11, 2023, the Dallas City Council voted in favor of renaming Audrey Street, named after a former Confederate general, to Dimple Jackson Street. "Now I can look and see the name of someone who had the characteristics I want to tell my children about when we look up at that sign," said Collective Activism leader Dr. Pamela Grayson. "Dimple Jackson had the advocacy, the love for community, the love for humanity that should be honored."

The ceremony will be attended by community members, local dignitaries, and the family of Jackson. "She was such an honorable person," said her son Robert Jackson. "She had such a gift in that she could make so many contributions that made her community better."

"I am grateful that Dixon Circle residents can look up to this shining symbol of a neighborhood matriarch," said District 7 Council Member Adam Bazaldua. "Mrs. Dimple Jackson dedicated her life to making her home a better place for everyone, and I am proud that the community is honoring her in an everlasting way."
