Rep. Sharon Cooper’s Legislation Bringing Key Changes to Pharmacy Regulations Signed into Law

ATLANTA - Today, State Representative Sharon Cooper (R-Marietta), chair of the House Committee on Public Health, joined Governor Brian Kemp as he signed House Bill 1072 into law. Sponsored by Rep. Cooper, this legislation will enhance pharmacy operations and create more efficient and safe means of distribution of pharmaceuticals across the state.

House Bill 1072 expands closed-door pharmacies, regulates pharmaceutical expiration dates, adjusts pharmacy technician to pharmacist ratios for the drug repository program and mandates proportional distribution of settlement proceeds from non-controlled substance prescription drugs based on program participation rates.

Representative Sharon Cooper represents the citizens of District 45, which includes portions of Cobb County. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 1996 and currently serves as Chairman of the Public Health Committee. She also serves on the Special Committee on Healthcare and the Human Relations & Aging, Judiciary Non-Civil, Regulated Industries and Rules committees. She is also an Ex-Officio member of the Health Committee.
