Skills, TAFE and Tertiary Education Minister Steve Whan tours ‘tertiary education leader’ in Wagga

Minister for Skills, TAFE and Tertiary Education the Hon. Steve Whan visited Charles Sturt in Wagga Wagga this week, naming it a 'leader in the tertiary education sector' while touring the University's facilities.

Minister for Skills, TAFE and Tertiary Education the Hon. Steve Whan has dubbed Charles Sturt University a 'leader in the tertiary education sector' during his visit to the University in Wagga Wagga to tour laboratory facilities and learn about the University's latest research projects.

The Minister met with Charles Sturt Vice-Chancellor Professor Renée Leon PSM as well as University researchers and PhD students on Wednesday 6 March.

Minister Whan toured the Pre-Clinical Centre, where students were participating in a hands-on demonstration. The Minister was able to engage with staff and fourth- and fifth-year veterinary students to learn about the facilities, course overview and student experience.

The University has an exemplary record for graduate employment within the veterinary sector with 100 per cent of graduates securing full-time employment within three years, according to the recent GOS-Longitudinal.

He then toured the National Life Sciences Hub (NaLSH), which features the Phytotron and Rhizolysimeter, where he was given an overview of the facility and heard from key researchers.

Professor Leon said it was a pleasure to welcome Minister Whan to Charles Sturt in Wagga Wagga to witness the University's contributions to the tertiary education sector.

"Charles Sturt University is leading the country for the seventh year in a row for graduate employment which shows the significant impact we are having in the tertiary education sector," Professor Leon said.

"It is a wonderful opportunity to be able to showcase this and all the University has to offer in regard to latest research innovations."

Minister Whan said the visit to Charles Sturt in Wagga Wagga gave a comprehensive overview of the impact the university was making in the veterinary and science sectors and was a good opportunity to meet staff and students.

"It was fantastic to visit Charles Sturt University and meet the team of incredibly dedicated staff and students. The tour of the specialised anatomy laboratory has made this a visit to remember," he said.

"Charles Sturt is a leader in the tertiary education sector and a great asset for regional NSW. I look forward to seeing the university continue to grow."
