AHN Welcomes 100th Baby Born at New Wexford Hospital

WEXFORD, Pa. - Allegheny Health Network (AHN) is celebrating the birth of the 100th baby born at AHN's new Wexford Hospital in Pine Township. On Monday, Nov. 8 at 6:17 p.m., Angelina and AJ Boocks of Weirton, WV welcomed a healthy baby girl, Raelynn Boocks. This special delivery for the Boocks family also marks a significant milestone for the hospital which opened just over one month ago on Sept. 30.

"Since its inception, we anticipated that AHN Wexford would quickly become a vital asset for the community and its people. This came to be within only minutes of opening our doors in late September when we treated our first patients, and when we welcomed the first baby born shortly thereafter," said Allan Klapper, MD, president of AHN Wexford Hospital. "Having now celebrated more than 100 birthdays at the hospital in just over a month further underscores the importance of having access to important health care programs like labor and delivery so close to home."

AHN Wexford's state-of-the-art labor and delivery (L&D) program, which is the only such program in northern Allegheny County, is located on the hospital's third floor and consists of six L&D rooms, 10 postpartum suites, a private triage area, four Level II neonatal intensive care (NICU) suites, a nursery and two operating rooms designated for patients in labor. The unit's waiting area also includes an Austin's Playroom established by the Mario Lemieux Foundation.

With floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the hospital's rooftop garden and the Mario Lemieux Foundation Healing Terrace, the large, all-private patient rooms are flooded with natural light. Spacious floor plans allow for sleeper couches, plush recliners, birthing beds, bedside fetal monitoring equipment, infant warmers and more, providing families maximum comfort throughout their stay.

The women's health practices delivering at AHN Wexford are Premier Women's Health, Cypher OBGYN and Northern Regional OB/GYN. The obstetrician-gynecologists are joined by maternal-fetal medicine specialists, neonatologists, obstetric anesthesiologists, nurses and nurse practitioners, physician assistants, lactation consultants, social workers, nutritionists, geneticists and genetic counselors and psychiatrists, among others.

In addition to the hospital's advanced pregnancy services, which includes high-risk obstetrical care, patients have access to a range of women's health specialists in maternal-fetal medicine, urogynecology, minimally invasive women's surgery, behavioral health, gynecologic oncology and midlife health. Comprehensive breast care and onsite diagnostic imaging are provided at the AHN Wexford Health + Wellness Pavilion which is connected to Wexford Hospital.

AHN Wexford joins AHN West Penn, AHN Forbes in Monroeville, AHN Jefferson in Jefferson Hills and AHN Saint Vincent in Erie as the network's obstetrical hospitals. These hospitals welcomed approximately 7,800 babies into the world last year.
