Event Recap: Advancing Organizational Priorities Through Health in All Policies

On Thursday, April 25, 2024, KHI hosted a virtual workshop which focused on demystifying the concept of Health in All Policies (HiAP) and showcasing practical ways for advancing HiAP within organizations' internal and external operations.

Participants learned the essential reasons for implementing HiAP approaches, explored practical examples of HiAP efforts from state and local governmental entities nationwide, and discovered strategies that can be implemented.

Attendees also built skills through learning about and using a tool called the Health Impact Checklist (HI-C). It incorporates equity into the decision-making process and can assist non-health sectors and decision-makers in understanding the health impacts of policies. This was achieved through an interactive breakout room session, where facilitated small group discussions enabled participants to collaboratively identify potential health impacts of policies using the HI-C.

Lastly, the webinar concluded with a discussion of potential challenges organizations may face when implementing HiAP and strategies to overcome them. Attendees received materials to support further learning and implementation, including a copy of the Health Impact Checklist toolkit, a list of adaptable HiAP strategies and a list of HiAP resources developed by other organizations.

The workshop facilitators have over a decade of experience in promoting HiAP. Their expertise spans from local to national levels, providing practical support to organizations in developing and implementing HiAP strategies, as well as advancing the HiAP field by developing resources.
