2021-22 Qualifiers for THE PLAYERS and the majors

Qualify for a Ryder Cup team and you must have done something right, for it's an exclusive fraternity consisting of golfers only from Europe and the United States.

The U.S. prevailed in convincing and historic fashion on Sunday, 19-9, but because the cycle of professional golf never ceases, even all the Ryder Cuppers receive perks just for making the team.

As noted beneath the PGA Championship in REMAINING QUALIFYING CRITERIA, spots in the major are reserved for the Ryder Cuppers inside the top 100 Official World Golf Ranking on May 9. This is a last resort for any who haven't qualified otherwise. The PGA of America traditionally can exempt all golfers inside the top 100, but only as many as 24 are extended the exemption as a promise.

Of course, because of what it takes to be a Ryder Cupper, a high percentage gain entry into the PGA Championship via multiple conduits over time, so there's considerable redundancy baked into the process to qualify for it and other premier events, but when the captain designates the captain's picks, he's in control of the PGA Championship exemption.

Furthermore, because the following invitationals invite all golfers who played in the Ryder Cup, the captain also exerted authority to send the captain's picks into The American Express, The Genesis Invitational, the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard, the RBC Heritage, the Charles Schwab Challenge and the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday.

Of the 2021 Ryder Cuppers, Bernd Wiesberger is the only non-member of the PGA TOUR, so should he capitalize on even a portion of the spots, he stands to gain the most relatively speaking. Ironically, the Austrian didn't need a captain's pick to qualify for his first Ryder Cup because he gained entry as the fourth of four automatics using the European points list.

No exemptions for events concerning this page were distributed on Sunday, but the Masters will gain one on Thursday, Sept. 30, when the champion of the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship is scheduled to be crowned. The 2020 edition was canceled due to COVID-19.

NOTE: Golfers are omitted if they recently haven't competed in majors for which they are eligible (e.g. The Open Championship=Justin Leonard).
