UToledo is hosting an exhibition for Unissued Diplomas, a project that remembers students who lost their lives due to the war in Ukraine.

The three-week exhibition runs from Monday, March 11, to Sunday, March 31, on the second floor of Carlson Library. The opening of the exhibit will feature guest speakers and a film presentation beginning at 3 p.m. Monday, March 11, in Carlson Library Room 1005.

Unissued Diplomas is a worldwide exhibition of symbolic diplomas awarded posthumously to Ukrainian students who never received their opportunity to graduate.

Ira Snahoshchenko, a data science sophomore from Ukraine, worked to bring the project to UToledo.

"Last year, the exhibition was hosted in over 110 universities worldwide, featuring 36 diplomas on stand and various posters," Snahoshchenko said. "When I learned about the exhibition, I instantly knew that I wanted to host the exhibition on UT's campus.

"Bringing these students' personal stories to campus was a very vulnerable, yet an extremely important decision for me," she added. "Human lives are not just a statistic, and they should not be treated as such. Each and every story of these students deserves to be heard, and that was what I was hoping to accomplish at with this exhibit on my very own campus at UT."
