In Aveiro as at home

FC Porto beat Moreirense and qualified for the final four of the League Cup (2-0)

Following a ban pf Estádio do Dragão, FC Porto faced Moreirense "at home" in Aveiro, but reached the same result in national competitions as if it were in Porto. The 2-0 victory meant the qualification to the final four of the League Cup, which will take place at the Estádio Municipal de Leiria, from January 7 to 11, 2025. Sporting, who defeated Nacional, are the opponents in the semi-finals.

Vítor Bruno changed seven players in the team that played in Vila das Aves and sent in Cláudio Ramos, João Mário, Zé Pedro, Eustáquio, André Franco, Galeno and Deniz Gül. With both teams clearly adjusting to the pitch of the Municipal de Aveiro, the first minutes were played away from the goals and the fans had to wait 12 minutes to see the first sign of danger: João Mário received a pass from Nico González between lines, at the edge of the area, and aimed at the nets of goalkeeper Caio Secco, but the ball went out just next to the post.

With a one-way match, directed at Moreirense's area from the start, after 30 minutes, the objective of scoring the first goal intensified. With greater dynamics and tactical variables, the goal came… from the feet of Leonardo Buta, an opponent. After Danny Namaso recovered the ball in the midfield, Nico González passed to Francisco Moura who, from the inside, passed to Galeno and received it again inside the area. The strong cross from the left fullback deflected on the opponent and ended at the bottom of the goal (1-0).

Moreirense tried to react immediately and Buta forced Cláudio Ramos to a good save to prevent the tie (36m) before Deniz Gül had a clear opportunity to increase the blue and white lead. In a vertical motion, Nico passed to Namaso, who quickly cleared the Swede. Marked by Maracas, he tried a trivela, but the shot went over the bar.

Namaso returned from the locker rooms focused on scoring and was the protagonist of the first dangerous plays of the second half. At 47 minutes, he got the ball on the left, near the edge of the area, and saw a great save by Caio Secco stopping his celebration. Seven minutes later, he again got the ball in a similar position, but to the right and the shot went just outside the post.

The forward's good start gave a contribution to the second goal of the night. Between lines, Namaso received the ball and gave it to Galeno, who, alone, forced Caio Secco to run up and then passed to Eustáquio, who dribbled the opponent and scored with his left foot (2-0).

Vítor Bruno sent in Samu and Fábio Vieira to replace Deniz Gül and Franco, the blue and whites increased the pace and, in two minutes, created two clear situations to make it 3-0: at 67, Cláudio Ramos created a quick counter-attack after a corner, the ball reached João Mário and the fullback broke the opposing defence with a deep pass to Danny Namaso, who was unable to score; soon after, Fábio Vieira passed to Galeno, who put Caio Secco's attention to the test before Samu, picking up the spare, barely missed the goal.

With Alan Varela, Rodrigo Mora and Gonçalo Borges on the pitch, Cláudio Ramos did another good save to keep the clean sheet after Gonçalo Borges put the reflexes of the opposing goalkeeper to the test twice. With FC Porto showing a desire to extend the advantage until the end, goalkeeper Caio Secco was the only one capable of grabbing on to the 2-0.
