Recap: Volunteer Workday at Dick Benoit Prairie

On April 3, members of the Galveston Bay Area Chapter of the Texas Master Naturalists and City staff held a volunteer workday at the Dick Benoit Prairie Preserve. The goal of the workday was to remove invasive species (like the Chinese Tallow), perform plant identification, and plant 30 large milkweed plants (donated by the Master Naturalists) to provide monarch butterfly habitats.

To date, the group has located and logged over 250 species of plants at the Prairie. This rich plant diversity is what helped the Preserve become a Certified Texas Native Prairie in late 2022. Both organizations look forward to working together on additional events in 2024.
