TMH Rehabilitation Center Receives 5-Star Rating From Medicare.Gov

Facility is only hospital-based extended care center in region to hold a 5-star CMS rating

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 1, 2024) -Tallahassee Memorial Rehabilitation Center (TMRC) has been recognized among the top 10% of nursing homes and extended care facilities in Florida for excellence in health inspections, staffing and quality. This recognition follows a recent inspection survey from the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA). TMRC was given a 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

CMS rates facilities on a 1-to-5-star scale, with 5-star ratings considered much above average and 1-star ratings considered much below average. This is the second 5-star rating for TMRC, which also earned a 5-star rating in 2022.

TMRC is one of just 19 facilities in Florida - and the only facility in the Big Bend region - to achieve a 5-star overall rating, a 5-star rating on its health inspection, a 5-star staffing rating and at least a 4-star quality measures rating. There are currently 691 nursing home and extended care facilities in Florida, according to AHCA.

"Receiving this recognition an incredible accomplishment that reflects our commitment to our patients," said Norman Pasley, Service Line Administrator of rehabilitation and sleep services at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH). "As a team, we strive for perfect survey scores to showcase the quality care we provide for our patients every day. It's an honor for our team to have their hard work recognized at a federal level though CMS."

The facility is one of just two extended care facilities associated with a hospital system in North Florida to earn a 5-star overall rating, which is featured on the Care Compare website at Medicare.gov.

"Providing continuum of care options for patients outside our Main Hospital is a strategic priority for our organization," said Andrew Starr, Vice President and Chief Health Operations Officer at TMH. "We're extremely proud of the hard work of our team at TMRC and their commitment to providing care that's not just the best locally, but among the best nationwide."

According to CMS, only about 10% of nursing homes and extended care facilities receive five stars. Health inspection ratings are re-calculated every month to account for new survey results in the CMS system.

TRMC provides 24/7 care to patients, and TMRC staff includes two physicians and more than 120 clinical staff. The facility has 51 inpatient beds, three inpatient physical and occupational therapy gyms, a speech therapy treatment area and a cafeteria. Patients have access to a multitude of services and therapies, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and lymphedema therapy, as well as inpatient medical care and treatment. The facility is also used for outpatient rehabilitation services.
