University Libraries unveils innovative renovation of B30 in Zimmerman Library

UNM University Libraries is excited to announce the completion of a transformative renovation project in Zimmerman Library's classroom B30, aimed at enhancing the learning experience for students through innovative design and collaborative spaces.

The renovated B30, located in the basement of Zimmerman Library, now boasts a total space rearrangement, focusing on fostering collaboration among students and creating an environment conducive to active learning. Gone are the traditional individual computers; instead, the room features eight collaborative stations strategically placed to facilitate group work.

Each collaborative station is equipped with a versatile monitor that can be raised or lowered, providing students with the flexibility to engage in shared projects or mirror the content displayed on the instructor's screen. This design ensures that all students have an unobstructed view of instructional material, fostering an inclusive and engaging learning environment.

Connectivity is at the forefront of this renovation, with each station offering a myriad of options for students to connect their laptops or tablets seamlessly. This connectivity empowers students to share their screens within the group, promoting a collaborative and interactive learning experience.

In addition to the interior enhancements, extra projectors have been strategically placed around the perimeter of the room, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their location, has a clear view of instructional content. This thoughtful addition aims to enhance visibility and engagement for all participants.

The renovated B30 aligns with the latest best practices for designing learning spaces, emphasizing collaborative learning environments that encourage student participation and engagement. The University Libraries team is committed to creating spaces that reflect contemporary educational methods and provide students with the tools they need to succeed.

"We are thrilled to unveil our newly transformed classroom, creating a warm and inviting space for learning. These enhancements mark a significant step forward, providing us with greater flexibility to engage and inspire our students in innovative ways," said Amy Jackson, University Libraries associate dean and Glenn Koelling, UL Learning Services coordinator.

This space is exclusively used for library classroom instruction sessions that faculty and instructors can schedule and coordinate with their assigned subject librarians. Instructors can a request a library session at https://unm.libwizard.com/f/instruction_request.

This renovation represents a significant investment in the future of education at UNM and underscores the institution's dedication to providing cutting-edge resources for its students.
