Adults and families can escape to the woods this summer with a free Guided Nature Hike of Black Hawk State Park from Rock Island Public Library. With help from a Black Hawk State Historic Site volunteer, the library plans to host the free hike on Saturday, June 4 from 10 am to 11:30 am. Registered guests will meet at the park. An experienced hiker will lead the way on the park's network of trails, and discuss the nature and history of the site.

Walkers should be prepared for uneven terrain, and bring a water bottle. The hike is free and open to adults and families, and requires registration. Sign up via the library calendar or call the library.

"Our Summer "Camp iRead" theme provides a perfect framework for exploring the wonders of this treasure in our own backyard," said Karrah Kuykendall, the library's Reference and Adult Services director. "We're offering more than 118 free opportunities this summer to read, learn, and have fun beyond the beaten path, so I encourage you to check out our website and events calendar. From craft kits to outreach, and movie showings to special events, there's something going on almost every day at your library."

The library also plans to offer a Non-fiction Book Club for adults in Longview Park this summer, with the first meeting happening on June 23.
