Share your memories as district celebrates its golden anniversary

Share your photos and memories of Three Rivers District from the past five decades for the chance to win a prize.

Fifty years ago on 1 April 1974, Three Rivers and the district council - among other local authorities across the country - were created under the Local Government Act. Before the Act, Three Rivers covered two areas and part of a third; Chorleywood Urban District, Rickmansworth Urban District, and partly Watford Rural District, which were all abolished.

The new area was named 'Three Rivers,' referencing the rivers Chess, Gade and Colne that flow through the district.

To mark the district's 50th anniversary, members of the public are invited to share their memories of it over the past 50 years by uploading a photo and sharing what it means to them.

The aim is to create a virtual, online photo gallery, of our residents' memories of Three Rivers, and a selection will be shared on the council's social media.

Those who take part will stand a chance of winning one of two £25 shop One4all gift card or similar.

Cllr Stephen Giles-Medhurst, Leader of Three Rivers District Council, said: "Time flies when you work hard to deliver the best for the district, so it's hard to believe that the area is celebrating its 50thanniversary. Our staff, both from times gone by to now, have always served and provided quality services for our residents, businesses and visitors and will continue to do so.

"Three Rivers has been on a remarkable journey and has seen some changes since 1974. That is why we want you to share your cherished memories and photographs that help paint a picture of what life was like in the district up to fifty years ago.

"They don't need to depict a major event that happened in Three Rivers; they can be a snapshot of a happy memory in the district that you look fondly of, like a wedding or a local shop or person that had an impact on your life, or it could be a photo that captures the heart and spirit of Three Rivers, such as a community event in our towns or villages or an image of our beautiful landscapes. Anything that tells us what life was like in the district 50 years ago we want to see it!
