196 Cadets Commissioned as SAF Officers

Minister for National Development and Minister-in-Charge of Social Service Integration Mr Desmond Lee reviewed the Officer Cadet Commissioning Parade at the SAFTI Military Institute this evening. A total of 196 cadets, comprising 137 from the Singapore Army, 19 from the Republic of Singapore Navy and 40 from the Republic of Singapore Air Force, were commissioned as officers of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).

Speaking at the parade, Mr Lee highlighted the critical role of having a strong and adaptive SAF. He said, "For our graduands on the parade square and our men and women in uniform, we must keep adapting our strategies to defend Singapore, and continue to build a strong SAF. One that is able to meet to the changing nature of these threats - and secure both Military and Digital defence of Singapore."

Mr Lee also reminded the graduands the importance of National Service, and that everyone has a role to play in the defence of Singapore. He said, "Discharge your duties without fear or favour, and lead with professionalism, pride and confidence. Throughout your journey, remember always that the quality of our people is the real strength of our SAF."

The parade marked the completion of 38 weeks of rigorous training at the Officer Cadet School. The realistic training conducted during the course sharpened the cadets' combat, planning and leadership skills. The newly commissioned officers will go on to assume command, instructional or staff appointment in the SAF. Also present at the parade were senior SAF officers, as well as families and friends of the newly commissioned officers.
