Traffic Advisory: Round Top Drive road slope stabilization

Road closure from 4120 Round Top Drive to 4126 Round Top Drive

HONOLULU - The public is advised that the City's contractor, Prometheus Construction, is scheduled to start the first phase of emergency work along Round Top Drive on Monday, May 9, 2022 and is anticipated to complete this work within six months, weather and conditions permitting. The project is located in the vicinity of 4120 Round Top Drive. The first phase includes stabilizing the slope by installing a series of tiered benches and multiple rows of soil nails and shotcrete. Reconstruction and restoration of the road back to its original width will follow in the second phase of the project. The Department of Design and Construction (DDC) will issue a separate notification prior to the start of the second phase of work.

The road from 4120 to 4126 Round Top Drive is currently closed due to a landslide and road failure from heavy rains associated with the Kona Low Storm in December 2021. The road closure will continue until after active construction for slope stabilization and road reconstruction work have been completed. For the safety of the general public, the road will be closed to vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians during the entire duration of construction.

Work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and possibly Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists and pedestrians are asked to please avoid the area, allow for extra travel time, and to abide by posted traffic signs.
