Coruripe Plant completes international certification audit for aviation biofuel production

This month, Usina Coruripe concluded the external audit process for ISCC Corsia Plus international certification, at the Iturama and Limeira do Oeste units, in Minas Gerais. The certification places the company in a select group of companies qualified to produce and sell aviation ethanol, contributing to the sector's energy transition.

ISCC is the main international certification system for biomass and bioenergy, focusing on sustainability of land and water use, production traceability and verification of greenhouse gases. The audit process to obtain certification, carried out between February 27th and March 7th, is rigorous and covers a series of ESG criteria, such as safe working conditions and social responsibility. The company certificate must be issued within 60 days.

The recognition serves to prove that the ethanol produced at the Iturama and Limeira do Oeste units, in the Triângulo Mineiro, meets international requirements for the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). "The production area must demonstrate that there has been no deforestation, comparing current land use and occupation with data from 2008. Furthermore, it is necessary to achieve a reduction in carbon emissions compared to fossil fuels, with zero deforestation being a fundamental requirement ", explains Coruripe's Sustainability coordinator, Allan Pedrosa.

To obtain certification, Usina Coruripe dedicated three months to internal preparation, which included training with leaders, aiming to align the company's practices with the rigorous international standards required. "Our management system, already robust and mature, was fundamental in meeting the demanding requirements of ISCC Corsia Plus. The conclusion of the audit attests to all the knowledge and effort that Coruripe already had, reaffirming that we are on the right path", highlights the president of the company, Mario Lorencatto.

The company has other certifications, such as ISO'S 9001, 14001, 45001, Renovabio, Bonsucro, FSSC 22000 and VIVE, which corroborate its concern with sustainable practices, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to the environment and the communities in which it operates. "Obtaining this certification is in line with the company's strategic planning and consolidates our position in the market, making us even more competitive", says Lorencatto.
