Congressman Cohen Says Trump-Musk Cut to FAA Employment Borders on Dangerous

MEMPHIS - Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), the Ranking Member of the Aviation Subcommittee, made the following statement after learning Monday that the Trump-Musk Administration plans to make drastic cuts to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) workforce:

"Recent aviation disasters still under investigation should strongly suggest that this is not the time to make draconian cuts in the federal aviation workforce. During this already heartbreaking moment for our aviation system and for the flying public, we are awaiting the conclusions and recommendations of the National Transportation Safety Board on the collision of an American Eagle regional jet with an Army Black Hawk helicopter over the Potomac River in D.C., the crash of an aeromedical flight in Philadelphia, the crash of a flight in Alaska, and other airspace emergencies, all of which rely on a dedicated FAA workforce. This is simply the wrong time to reduce employment at the Federal Aviation Administration whose function is to protect the flying public. These cuts will affect the flying public's confidence in the system and will surely cause some to choose not to fly, and many more to have stress about flying."
