President Tan Zhemin met Jim Steinberg, Dean of the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, and his delegation

On December 15, Tan Zhemin, member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and President of Nanjing University, met with Jim Steinberg, Dean of the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, and his delegation at the Xianlin Campus of Nanjing University. The two parties discussed the Hopkins-Nanjing Center's cooperative education situation and future development prospects. Wang Zhenlin, Vice President of Nanjing University, accompanied the meeting.

On behalf of Nanjing University, President Tan welcomed Dean Steinberg and his delegation and revisited the history and current development of the Hopkins-Nanjing Center. He pointed out that Nanjing University and Johns Hopkins University have always adhered to the original intention of seeking common ground while shelving differences, promoted mutual learning and open exchange of ideas, and worked towards forging a common path. The center's philosophies of "bridging languages, cultures, disciplines and borders" and "learning, living, growing and developing together" enable teachers and students from China, the United States and other countries with different growth experiences and educational backgrounds to communicate, make friends, and build heartfelt relationships based on mutual respect. Facing a challenging global future, President Tan hopes that the two universities will deepen cooperation, enhance the platform effectiveness and international influence of the Hopkins-Nanjing Center, expand support resources and areas of cooperation, and work together for the prosperity of Sino-U.S. cultural and educational exchange.

Dean Steinberg thanked Nanjing University for its warm reception. He was excited that China and the United States had reached a consensus on strengthening educational cooperation and supporting personnel exchanges, and welcomed the opportunity to have in-depth discussion with his Nanjing University counterparts. Steinberg hopes that, in future cooperation, the two universities can adhere to the Hopkins-Nanjing Center's innovative model, increase cooperation in research, praxis, and career development, strengthen communication between scholars, and strive to remain at the forefront of innovation in Sino-US educational cooperation.

At the meeting, both parties shared their respective visions for the Hopkins-Nanjing Center's future development, and expressed unanimous hope that the Center will write a new chapter in cooperative education.

Relevant persons in charge of the International Office of Nanjing University, the Hopkins-Nanjing Center, and the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies also attended the symposium.

During his visit, Steinberg toured the Hopkins-Nanjing Center and gave a keynote lecture entitled "China, the United States and the Future of World Order" to teachers, students, alumni, and guest representatives in the Kuang Yaming Auditorium. The Hopkins-Nanjing Center also held an alumni reception, with more than 150 alumni from the Hopkins-Nanjing Center, SAIS D.C., and SAIS Europe in attendance. Dean Steinberg and the Hopkins-Nanjing Center Co-directors all gave speeches welcoming everyone back to the Center.
