Statement by Congressman Kildee on Juneteenth

'Juneteenth commemorates the moment when the last formerly enslaved people in America learned they were free. Juneteenth is a day of reflection and a celebration of freedom for Black Americans. It's important that we learn from America's history of systemic racial injustice and strive to do better.

'This week, I voted to make Juneteenth a federal holiday. I am pleased that President Biden signed this bipartisan legislation into law. Making Juneteenth a federal holiday is a major step forward to recognize the wrongs of the past, but we must continue to work to ensure equal justice for all Americans.'
