Bike Month 2021

May is Bike Modesto Month! All month long, we celebrate bicycling as an essential mode of transportation. Biking instead of driving to destinations is a great way to get exercise, help keep our air clean, and enjoy time outdoors.

With nearly 14 miles of bike paths and trails of varying difficulties throughout the City, there is something here for everyone to celebrate Bike Modesto Month.

Ways You Can Celebrate

  • Take a New Trail: Modesto has added a few new trails since last year, so go check them out. For starters, the trail in Kewin Park was extended from the Dry Creek Regional Park Trail to La Loma Drive.
  • Mapped Trailheads: Nine new trailheads have been installed, with more to come, along the Tuolumne River and Dry Creek: West Carpenter Road, 7th Street, South Morton Blvd, Moose Park, Kewin Park, Pamela Monterosso, Creekside, McClure Road and Gomes Road trailheads (some limited parking is available at each trailhead).
  • Bike to Work: Change up your daily routine by biking to work instead of driving! Thursday, May 20 is Modesto's Bike to Work Day, and Friday, May 21 is National Ride Your Bike to Work Day. To learn more visit: https://www.modestoareaexpress.com/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=159
  • Ring the Bell: Bike the Tuolumne River Regional Park Trail to ring the bell at the far western end! Scan the QR code with your phone to virtually log that you made it all the way.
  • Play Bingo: You have the chance to win a number of prizes from Dibs when you log your bike miles on their online bingo card.

Popular Trails

  • Virginia Corridor Trail: Starting at the intersection of Stoddard Ave and Virginia Ave., this 2.9-mile Class 1 paved asphalt trail is great for all ages. Upcoming: Virginia Corridor, Phase 7 extension, from Woodrow Ave to the Hetch Hetchy Trail to start construction soon!
  • Dry Creek Regional Park Trails: Starting at the Moose Park Trailhead along North Morton Blvd., this Class 1 trail runs along Dry Creek for 4.5 miles out to Claus Road. The trail features smooth surfaces for the whole family and dirt trails for more experienced riders on the side. Bonus: Visit the new trailside playground at East La Loma Park!
  • Hetch Hetchy Trail: Starting at the intersection of Sisk Rd. and Rumble Rd., this 2.9-mile Class 1 paved asphalt trail is great for all ages and makes connections to multiple neighborhoods and shopping areas.
  • Tuolumne River Regional Park Trails: Two great destinations for bikers of all ages and experience levels.

1st Destination: Start at the South Morton Blvd. Trailhead and take the gravel paved trail south, down toward the river. Traveling westward, venture on and off the main trail to explore the various paved and dirt trails along the river's edge, including an all-ages biker's obstacle course. This trail stretches several miles and is great for mountain bikers.

2nd Destination: Start at the Mary Grogan Grove, just south of the intersection of Tioga Dr. and Hillside Dr. Travel east along this Class 1 trail through the centuries old Valley Oak woodland located along the river's edge. This quiet, 2.9-mile looping trail is removed from urban life.
