Historic Inflation Reduction Act delivers for working families

Des Moines, Iowa - Progress Iowa Executive Director Matt Sinovic issued the following statement in response to Houses lawmakers sending the Inflation Reduction Act to President Biden's desk:

"No matter what we look like or where we live, Iowans work hard to take care of their families. But right now, many of us are struggling to make ends meet because of corporate price gouging.

"Life is already expensive. Gas prices are going down but families still need support from prices that are too high. We know that the items we need most remain out of reach because Republican lawmakers have rigged the rules for greedy corporations and the ultra wealthy few so they can raise prices on the things we need to survive.

"Thankfully, Senate Democrats banded together to pass the Inflation Reduction Act. This historic legislation delivers on President Biden's agenda to lower costs for working families, fight inflation, and invest in combating climate change - all without raising taxes on anyone making less than $400,000. This legislation is fully paid for by making the ultra wealthy and big businesses pay their fair share.

"This is the action the American people have been waiting for. This addresses problems of today and invests in our energy security for the future. Unfortunately, Iowa's Republican Congressional Delegation voted against this significant legislation. It's time they stop playing politics and help pass legislation that delivers for working families.
