HACLA awarded $4 million in infrastructure funding by the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) Regional Council
Los Angeles- Last week, on Tuesday January 9th, the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) Regional Council announced grant awards for 12 projects that will help local jurisdictions meet their various housing production goals. The Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA) was among the 12 award recipients, receiving $4 million in funds. The grant money is designed to support investments in utility infrastructure planning and capital improvements.
HACLA's One San Pedro Redevelopment Infrastructure capital project will help expand the electrical capacity at the One San Pedro Specific Plan site and 327 Harbor Site and will ensure that key infrastructure is in place as HACLA embarks on the replacement of 478 units of low-density public housing with over 1,500 units of new, accessible and higher density mixed-income housing in a transit-oriented location.
The community benefitting from this investment is located on the Palos Verdes Peninsula and consists of two locations in the community of San Pedro: the Rancho San Pedro Public Housing Site and 327 Harbor Site. The Rancho San Pedro public housing site encompasses approximately 20 acres and nine city blocks and 60 buildings and 327 Harbor is just a few blocks north of this larger property.
"The first offsite phase of this large investment in public housing redevelopment within the San Pedro community will allow us to build the first units of replacement housing and provide for a more pedestrian-friendly, green environment," said Doug Guthrie, President & CEO of HACLA.
