IPRS Helps Mexican Tilapia Producer to Boost Results

The In-Pond Raceway System (IPRS), a U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC) innovation, was introduced to Chinese fish farmers in 2013. Subsequently, IPRS technology was widely adopted throughout China, the Middle East/North Africa (MENA) region, the Southeast and South Asia regions, and the Americas, providing advantages in product safety, operational efficiencies, and resource conservation.

Complejo Acuícola Tupez, a commercial tilapia farm in Alvarado, Veracruz, México became interested in IPRS technology through USSEC's IPRS seminars, 2018 visits to IPRS farms in Vietnam and China, and by tracking positive results in other IPRS operations in the Americas region. Over the course of several months in 2019, USSEC consultants visited the farm over the farm and guided the start of IPRS construction. Work was completed and fish were stocked in November of that year.

USSEC Program Manager - Aquaculture for the Americas Jairo Amezquita recently co-authored a piece in the Global Aquaculture Advocate, evaluating the commercial, intensive production of Nile tilapia at Tupez. To read this story, please click here.

Global aquaculture has greatly benefitted from IPRS technology, showing increased yields and less environmental impact, while at the same time, increasing the utilization of sustainable, high-quality U.S. soybean meal in aquafeeds.
