Traffic Advisory: Lane Closure on Press Drive from Dreux Avenue to Mirabeau Avenue

NEW ORLEANS - The City of New Orleans today announced that beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 5, weather permitting, the Department of Public Works (DPW) contractor, Wallace C. Drennan, Inc., will begin roadway restoration work that will temporarily close southbound travel lanes on Press Drive from Dreux Avenue to Mirabeau Avenue for approximately six weeks.

During this time, southbound traffic will be detoured onto a shared northbound lane of Press Drive from Dreux Avenue to Mirabeau Avenue (see map). This closure is necessary to accommodate construction on the Gentilly Woods Group F construction project. Public safety is our top priority; signage and traffic control measures, such as barrels and fencing, will be onsite to direct drivers and pedestrians.

During this temporary lane closure, crews will be working in the closed travel lanes removing the roadway and performing utility repairs. Vehicle traffic will be temporarily reduced to one lane in each direction to allow for shared use of the northbound lanes. 'No Parking' signs will be posted along the parking lane of Press Drive. Vehicles will be restricted from using the crossover turn lanes along Press Drive between Dreux Avenue and Mirabeau Avenue. Residents and businesses in this area were notified of the closure through a neighborhood canvassing effort.

The $48.1 million Gentilly Woods Group F project was designed by EJES Inc. and is being constructed by Wallace C. Drennan, Inc. The scope of work varies by block but includes repairing sewage, water and drainage lines, rebuilding the street entirely and repairing sidewalks and curbs. In general, the contractor is working from 7 a.m. until sunset, Monday through Friday. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by the spring of 2024, weather permitting.
