During the ceremony, Congressman Bishop thanked the competition judges - Lakeisha Martin, Chloe Hinton, Sidney Pettice, Britny Wray-Watson, and Jermaine Dupree - as well as the Albany Museum of Art which has been supportive of the competition and its student artists.
The annual competition began in 1982. The competition is sponsored by the Congressional Institute, a non-profit organization.
The first-place winner's art will be displayed in the underground walkway between the Cannon House Office Building and the U.S. Capitol. Each year, thousands of Americans walk this passage when visiting the U.S. Capitol.
The new artwork will be put on display this summer and the winner is invited - with travel expenses covered - to Washington, DC, for a reception honoring the winners from each Congressional District across the country.
