'Connecting Portugal to the Diaspora' Mission

"Connecting Portugal to the Diaspora" Mission

17 May 2023

Tomorrow, the Secretary of State for the Portuguese Communities, Paulo Cafôfo, sets in motion, in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, another stage of the "Connecting Portugal to the Diaspora" Mission, an initiative to treasure and bring the Diaspora closer to Portugal, based on fostering relationship with local authorities, companies and the civil society.

During the visit to Madeira, the birthplace of a Portuguese Diaspora with strong representation in countries such as Brazil, the United States, Venezuela, South Africa, the United Kingdom, Australia, France and Germany, the SoS will be in contact with local councillors, the Regional Government, the Representative of the Republic, the Legislative Assembly and the civil society, establishing dialogue and promoting synergies in order to deepen the appreciation and closeness of the Portuguese communities to Portugal and their communities of origin.

Over the next few months, the SECP will continue to visit municipalities in the countryside and autonomous regions, following the "Connecting Portugal to the Diaspora" Mission roadmap, concerning five aspects: language and culture; entrepreneurship and investment; inclusion, equality and citizenship; networks, talent and innovation; and solidarity and merit.
