Traffic Advisory: Temporary Road Closure on Allen Street between Humanity Street and Gentilly Boulevard

NEW ORLEANS - The City of New Orleans today announced that beginning Wednesday, Dec. 6 at 7 a.m., Department of Public Works (DPW) construction contractor, Barriere Construction Company, LLC, will temporarily close Allen Street, between Humanity Street and Gentilly Boulevard, to vehicular traffic until Friday, Dec. 15 at 5 p.m.

This closure will allow crews to perform roadway restoration features, along with installing Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant curb ramps at intersections as part of the $39.5 million Dillard A/B Infrastructure Improvement Project.

During this time, northbound traffic on Allen Street will detour onto Humanity Street and continue onto Saint Anthony Street (see map). Public safety is our top priority; signage and traffic control measures, such as barricades and fencing, will be onsite to direct drivers and pedestrians to the safest route of travel.

The $39.5 million Dillard A/B Infrastructure Improvement Project will consist of removing, replacing and repairing existing water, sewer and drainage lines, repaving the roadways, installing new sidewalks when necessary and installing ADA-compliant curb ramps at all intersections. The project is currently scheduled to begin wrapping up in the spring of 2024.

Since May 2018, DPW has completed 178 projects with an estimated value of $750 million. Today, 49 roadwork projects are under construction with an estimated value of nearly $692 million.
