Public Input Opportunity: Help Improve SLO Transit Services

SLO Transit invites community members to review and provide input on the Short-Range Transit Plan update. The Mass Transportation Committee (MTC) who provides oversight and policy decisions for SLO Transit, and the Regional Transit Advisory Committee (RTAC) provides oversight and policy decisions on San Luis Obispo Regional Transit Authority's (SLORTA) system, will be reviewing the progress so far on updating both SLO Transit's and SLORTA's five-year Short-Range Transit Plan.

Community members are encouraged to attend the upcoming joint Mass Transportation Committee (MTC) meeting to provide input, or they can email their input or comments to [email protected].

Upcoming joint Mass Transportation Committee (MTC) & San Luis Obispo Regional Transit Authority Meeting:
When: Wednesday, March 13, 2024
Time: 2:30 - 4:00 p.m.
Where: Council Hearing Room (990 Palm Street)

During the joint Mass Transportation Committee and the Regional Transit Advisory Committee, staff will present survey results based on community input received late last year via online surveys, and on-board surveys, and receive input from the committee to help guide further development of the plans before presentation to the City Council in July 2024.

The Short-Range Transit Plan update process includes a study session with City Council, tentatively scheduled for July 2024. At the study session, staff and consultants will present a draft service operations plan and capital improvement budget along with a variety of service alternatives for their consideration.

The Short-Range Transit Plan is a road map that helps SLO Transit make important decisions about how to run their buses and improve their services. It gives SLO Transit a plan to follow for the next five years, so they know what changes to make and how to make transportation better. By addressing current challenges and identifying future needs, the SRTP aims to create a more efficient, reliable, and sustainable transit system that meets the diverse needs of the community.

Following the joint MTC meeting, staff will review committee feedback and revise draft plans before bringing the project to the City Council for approval in December 2024 with implementation beginning July 2025.
