Sen. Moran Statement on Data Privacy Proposal

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) today released the following statement on the data privacy proposal announced by Senator Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) and Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.):

"I have long advocated and worked with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle for the enactment of a federal comprehensive data privacy and security law that puts Americans in control of their data and creates clear standards for American businesses that process and use consumers' personally identifiable data. Such a federal law would help solve ongoing concerns about children's online data privacy and national security concerns regarding foreign collection of U.S. data, among other issues.

"I am pleased leaders on both the Senate and House Commerce Committees are interested in tackling this critical issue. I expect the Senate Commerce Committee to respond with hearings and produce a bill that protects consumers and fosters an environment which promotes innovators and job creators."
